PLTW Success Stories: Karianne Blum

K Blum

Karianne Blum began her journey to become an engineer in Mr. Diliegro's engineering class during her senior year at Harry S. Truman High School. She was accepted to study Environmental Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ, and was awarded the prestigious Martha Bayard Stevens' Scholarship.  She started in the Fall of 2010 and joined the bowling and yearbook clubs.  Upon starting her fourth semester, Karianne switched her major to Mechanical Engineering in order to focus more on design work. Karianne also took advantage of the Cooperative Education Program that Stevens offers.  During he enrollment in the Co-op program she worked for two medical manufacturers, GlaxoSmithKline and Mindray which allowed her to gain over one year of professional work experience.  During her Co-ops she took classes to work toward a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.  In her senior year at Stevens, Karianne actively applied and interviewed for Full-Time positions.  Karianne will be graduating in May of 2015 with both her bachelors and masters in Mechanical Engineering, and has accepted an offer to work for Lockheed Martin after graduation.  She will be a part of one of the design teams at Lockheed Martin as a Hardware Engineer. Congratulations!
