Español 3

Hola, clase. Nuestro libro es Realidades 3.

Vamos a aprender sobre el arte ahora.

We are going to learn about Art and artists like Pablo Picasso now.  You need to know how to choose between the Preterite and the Imperfect and familiarize yourself with Ser and Estar again.  After the Quarterly you will be learning another use of Estar.  Look at the following:

Estar + Participio                                             (-ed in English -ado in Spanish)

The past participle is frequently used with the verb estar. It is what we call the “passive voice.”  María y Juan decoraron la clase. Mary and John decorated the classroom. La clase estaba decorada por María y Juan. The classroom was decorated by Mary and John.

Many adjectives in Spanish are actually past participles of verbs. *ya indicates that you will use estar with the participle* (aburrido, cansado, divertido)

To form a past participle you add -ado to the root of -ar verbs and -ido to the root of -er and -ir verbs.

1)    Use está or están for the present and estaba or estaban for the past!
